| What a beautiful gown! And it could not be in better condition. Made of nylon with metal side zipper - both brand new innovations when this gown was made. It's easy to see why nylon was immediately popular for wedding gowns - this is not like any nylon you've ever seen. Fine, silky (a little floaty, even) with a beautiful drape and 'hand' and just a little silky shine. A truly wonderful fabric that was soon to disappear, as nylon would be needed to fight WWII.
The lace in this gown is some of the loveliest I've seen - beautfully woven with each complex motif clear and precise, sheer but very strong. The deeply gathered bodice is accented with rounded flower buds - an exquisite embellishment. The sleeves have a bit of gathered net in the shoulders for a little body and shape, and best of all - it comes with its original silky bias-cut slip that provides the perfect lining. |
