What a dreamy dress - as lovely as a summer's day. Ballerina length, made of sheer, crisp cotton organdy, the kind they don't make anymore, embroidered all over with tiny bows and starbursts. The scalloped neckline is slightly off-the-shoulder, coming to just where the arm meets the shoulder. Can't show it on the mannequin because without arms, the dress falls off! The neckline is very flattering with a feminine and demure sex appeal, and the elbow-length sleeves are caught up in matching ties - another lovely touch.
The bodice is lined in taffeta, and the gown comes with a matching taffeta slip with finished waistband - could almost be a skirt by itself. Some of the pictures show the dress thrown back over the mannequin's top to show the sheerness of the organdy and the taffeta underslip. The slip waist measurement is 27," but could easily be enlarged with a little elastic. This dress had an industrial-strength metal zipper that has been replaced with a modern invisible one creating a smooth, elegant finish. In excellent condition. |

When famous Spanish designer Balenciaga introduced his "balloon" dress for the 1958 season it, as they say, "took the fashion world by storm." Soon the balloon dress with it's 3-dimensional skirt was all the rage from Paris to Des Moines.
This lacey interpretation just oozes Audrey Hepburn chic - the poof of a skirt is gathered into a swag every few inches, each swag accented with a small white velvet bow. The lavish lace of the neckline is further embellished with sequins and pearls. This gown would look fabulous with the sleeves removed and the shoulders cut-in just a bit. Sleeves are drawn back in one pic to show this potential.
Gown buttons up the back and is shown over a narrow hoop and a ruffled net petticoat (a can-can) for maximum poof. Fewer underpinnings gives a more narrow silouette that is lovely in its own right. Excellent condition, with a few invisible mends to the lace here and there - you'll never notice.
The balloon dress, by the by, is enjoying a current revival and was widely shown in the Fall fashion shows. |

| Full of feminine grace and charm, this dress has fabulous potential - wear it with the original sleeves, or remove them for a knock-out New Look. Check out the photo simulation using the More Pictures link. Gown is accented with pleated tulle and iridescent sequins at the neckline, and a two-tiered skirt effect of lace and tulle. Skirt is slightly longer in the back to create a more elegant line. A pretty lacy bow accents the lower skirt. Great condition. |

This stunningly graceful and elegant 1950s ballgown was designed by Arden of Campus Bridals (a foremost designer of the day) and made to the highest quality standards. Of the heaviest, most sumptuous slipper satin with an appliqued bodice and skirt design of alencon lace. The satin is a warm, golden ivory, and the lace is outlined in golden (not metallic) thread which sets off and heightens the design. The bodice floats across the shoulders on a cloud of marquisette net, and the irregular floral edging gives a regal touch. All this combined with the sweeping train truly makes this royal beauty an example of the very best 1950s bridal fashion. [5001]
